Beginner Tip 03: Perfect Use of Fullbacks
This tip tells you how to achieve an offensive predominance with both your fullbacks.
(1) Begin with passing as a goalkeeper or center back – provided you are playing with a back four – to the left or right fullback. Sprint forward with the fullback in possession of the ball parallel to the sideline until the opponent tries a hold-up play.
(2) Now pass to the free midfield teammate and keep the ball within your line. Watch the fullback.
(3) Pass outside to the fullback sprinting along the sideline and towards the endline in the opponent’s half.
(4) The fullback gets the ball to the opponent’s penalty area or uses a low or middle cross to shoot the ball into it. This leads to an offensive predominance and higher chances for scoring goals.

PES 2012-Tip: Long Shots
In this part of our goal shot tips, we explain in detail how to successfully execute long shots.
Long shots are an excellent method if the opponent does not let you enter their penalty area. In this case, a powerful goal shot from a distance can be just the right thing to end a wearing defence fight with one play.
When you have taken the lead, the opponent has to act and loosen their defence in order to play forward better.
The long shot is a must in every PES player’s repertoire, making their attacks stay unpredictable.
Which players are suitable for long shots?
Nearly any player with good shot power and stats is suited for this job, but usually midfielders are the perfect candidates as designated long shot specialists in your team.
They are often automatically in promising shot positions on the field if the play forward has got stuck around the opponent’s penalty box.
A low pass from the wings to one of the advancing midfield players often creates a good starting point for an unexpected strong shot.
Take a short look at you formation menu before the start of the match to see which of your midfield players are best suited. Shot power and accuracy are of prime importance, although these stats do not have to be at a striker level.
Player stats influence your accuracy
A player with a shot power of 80 points (the more, the better) and an accuracy of more than 70 points would be a good choice. Some midfielders even have the “Long Shot” Special Ability that raises their chance to precisely shoot from a distance.
Heed these simple rules for executing long shots:
1) Shots from distances of more than 35 meters are not recommended, unless the opponent keeper is leaving his goal. Distances of around 30 meters are no problem for experienced players, but they should take a short run-up before shooting.
2) If you would like to shoot while sprinting, you can use the feature “Greater Distance Between Ball Touches” (additionally press the “Special Moves” button – i.e. R2 or RT – while sprinting and steer slightly diagonally to your running direction) to make room for a run-up.
3) Depending on the distance, the shot power gauge should be charged to at least a third, but not exceed two thirds. It is important not to shoot to low, since the ball slows down with every ground contact, making it easier to intercept.
4) A pass or a low feed to the advancing player makes it easy to receive the pass. If possible, the ball should be directed towards the shot-taker:

PES 2012 Tip: Teammate Control
In the our goal shot tip, we explain in detail how to include your teammates in your offensive play.
Additional passing options and outnumbering the opponent in their half are the most important results, often leading to a successful goal shot.
While assembling these tips and tricks, we asked several PES League players which feature they often use – “Teammate Control Assisted” or “Teammate Control Manual” was a frequent answer.
How does the Teammate Control work?
Since PES 2012, you can also control off-the-ball players while attacking and encourage them to run towards free space on the field. In the button configuration menu, you can chose between to variations of the Teammate Control: “Assisted” and “Manual”.
– For most players, the assisted mode should already be a gain to their offensive play, since it lets them easily and quickly create additional attacking options.
– The manual version of this feature enables maximum control over the chosen teammate, although it is a bit harder to master.
Teammate Control “Assisted”
When using the assisted version, you simply hold the right analog stick towards the player you want to include in the attack and press the right stick.
The player will now start a sprint into free space, offering another passing option. The clear advantage: You are no longer at the mercy of the AI’s passivity and decide for yourself when your teammate actively participates in the offensive.
If you take the middle path and see that the opponent’s fullback is in a bad position, you can hold the stick towards the midfielder running along the left sideline for example. Activate him and watch how your teammate creates space to get into a promising position for a high pass.
But if your attack comes to a standstill on the wing, use the right stick to let a central midfielder take part in the offensive play in the middle of the pitch in order to slip out of the defender’s grip.
In general, you can send any number of players forward and have access to varied options.
Teammate Control “Manual”
For users of the manual Teammate Control, they become even more varied. As before, use the right stick to chose your desired player, press the stick, and as long as you do not let go of it or move it to the neutral middle position again, you directly control the second player.
This variant needs some practice, but enables you to send your teammates in any direction instead of letting them simply rush towards the goal.
You can also let them run towards each other, diagonally to your direction or even back, making your play much more unpredictable and flexible.
Please note: We recommend practising the assisted and manual versions of the Teammate Control in Free Training and choose the one you like most. Your opponents will be surprised, since this feature really gives you an ace up your sleeve.
